Dressmaker on itch.io: download the free prototype.
The creator-hosted Dressmaker prototype is a desktop game for Windows, macOS and Linux. It is a separate, earlier build of the game now sold on Steam.
We link to the creator's page. Dressmaker Fieldnotes does not host the game or its download files.
How to get the prototype
- 01Open the Dressmaker page on itch.io and choose Download Now.
- 02Choose whether to support the developers. The download page also offers “No thanks, just take me to the downloads”.
- 03Pick the ZIP for your operating system, extract it, and follow the creator's instructions to run it.

Prototype or Steam release?
The itch.io page calls this an unfinished prototype, initially made by Free Lives in about three weeks and later expanded. Its developers link directly to the full Dressmaker game on Steam. The Steam release is developed by Cozy Lives and published by Free Lives. They share the same project, but the prototype is not a free copy of the finished game.

The creator lists downloadable desktop ZIP files, not a browser version. You need to download and run the file for your computer.
Do I need to buy the Steam game first?
No. The itch.io prototype is a separate download. The full release is available through Steam.
Is the prototype really free?
Yes. The itch.io checkout says the game is free and offers an optional contribution to the developer. Choose the download option that suits you on the creator's site.
